Double up

St Davids 0 Aberaeron 76

The long trip south proved totally worthwhile for Aberaeron with a 12 try salvo completing the season's double over the lowly Saints. Perennial strugglers they may be , but on the day they were outdone by an outstanding offensive display coupled with a dour defence which refused to buckle against the sporadic home onslaught. The pattern was set from the first kick with flanker Gethin Dafis gathering a loose ball and crossing within 20 seconds, probably a local record. Rhodri Jenkins added the first of his 8 conversion successes. Aberaeron can now boast considerable strength in depth within the front eight, none more so than the front row where coach Justin Lloyd gave Matt Roberts and Ceri Dorian Davies their first starts at prop and Roberts crowned a powerful afternoon with the second try. Minutes later a deft pass from Gareth James to wing Rhodri Thomas released a galloping Aaron Lewis to cross the line and this was followed by a first of 3 tries by outside half Jenkins. Wing Thomas then added to the tally with a move from midway gathering a perfect pass from Tom Slinger and fellow wing Dyfrig Dafis then completed a move from the visitors 22 for a 38 point advantage at the break. It was much of the same after the restart with Jenkins second followed by burly scrum half James taking the scoring pass from Lewis Tomlins. The Dafis brothers added their second tries apiece but their attempts for the hat trick failed only to see Jenkins claiming the honour with his third of the afternoon but not before young second row Llyr Davies had brushed aside a would be defence for his second of the campaign and complete the scoring. A difficult challenge it may not have been but the display can only enhance the confidence within the squad with plenty to play for to season's end.
