Home defeat

Aberaeron 0 Milford Haven 19

Having performed admirably over the last few games this must rank as a major disappointment for Aberaeron as they relinquish their second position in Division 3 West A. The fact that the visitors arrived over an hour before k o showed their intentions whereas Aberaeron's preparations were disrupted with late arrivals which in no no little way led to belated reorganisation. Milford came with a set plan and were worthy of their success with a wall drilled and organised outfit which the home team was unable to overcome. The much acclaimed expansive style of Aberaeron to date was stifled with a visitors backline whose determination and defence could not be questioned and will surely have a major say on the promotion standings come end of season. Determination and commitment resulted in 3 first half penalties for Milford, duly converted by scrum half Dan Mclelland giving a major boost to face the elements after the break. Aberaeron to their credit enjoyed several purple patches in the second period with several phases close to the whitewash but were unable to break down a resolute defence and a couple of breakaways resulted in tries from David Round and Lee Riley to compound Aberaeron's misery. It was indeed a disappointed Aberaeron troupe at the final whistle and a severe dent to pre season ambitions. Much self assessment will be required before the next encounter to recover ambition and expectation in what promises to be a close league.
