Llanybydder 8 Aberaeron 21

A growing injury list and unavailabilities resulted in Aberaeron showing
6 changes from the previous week. Fortunately the strength in depth
within the squad gives the coaching staff the opportunity for the younger
players to develop and provide a rosy future for the club, and they stood
up to the challenge against a determined home side looking for their first
win of the campaign. And it was a mixture of the old and new that
ensured success in the end. It was however the hosts who the early
breakthrough, with a penalty following a breakdown in the visitors attack.
Despite the setback Aberaeron began to dominate especially in the set
pieces with youngsters Hefin Williams and Llyr Davies dominating the
lineout. That possession paved the way for a 3 try salvo before the break
and in the end secure the victory. Centre Ollie Sawyer was a real thorn in
the home defence throughout the afternoon combining pace and strength
to provide the openings, and the first try resulted from a strong run in
midfield and flowing move along the backline to give wing Owz Lloyd
his first try for the club. Rhodri Jenkins converted from the touchline for
the first of 3 successes for the afternoon. The Aberaeron pack's
dominance paved the way for the second try with Alex Danton finally
taking the glory. The best however was reserved for the third try, starting
in the visitors half . Captain Sion Evans made the initial breakthrough,
before youngster Osian Davies playing for the first time with brother
Bedwyr, stormed through from half way only to be caught just short of
the line. However prop Danton, showing surprising pace was on hand to
gather and claim his second. With, a comfortable lead at the break, it gave
the opportunity for several changes in personnel but despite creating a
few chances, the elusive bonus point try failed to materialise and it was
Llan who had the final say with a close range effort from Arwel Thomas.
In what could have been a tricky afternoon, the result showed the benefit
of a junior and youth section, with the younger element ensuring the
future is rosy and in good hands.
