Furnace 12 Aberaeron 18

In a game of two halves Aberaeron just about held out to climb to second position in the league. Playing into a the wind and rain in the first period the visitors dominated territorially with strong carries by Severs and Aaron Lewis , and they deservedly took the lead halfway through the half with 2 well struck penalties from Rhodri Jenkins. They further capitalised within minutes when lock from Alister Severs crossed for the first try of the afternoon. Just on stroke of half time a break by Ollie Sawyer gave hooker Sion Evans the opportunity to finish the  move with a touchdown near the post. Jenkins duly added the conversion for a halftime score of 18-0

The second half continued in the same vein with overall domination but as in previous encounters Aberaeron were guilty once more of white line fever, time and again failing to capitalise on promising positions. Lewis and Severs were unfortunate not to add to their tally and then came the turning point when an injury to a Furnace front row player saw the game continue with uncontested scrums. .From that moment the more threatening Furnace backline came into the game and winger Keiron Grifiths finished off a well work move to  score in the corner. Aberaeron suffered a further setback when Severs was yellow carded for high tackle, and from the resulting penalty Rhys Phillips went over with Jamie Herbert converting,It was a nervous last few minutes with the visitors having been in the ascendancy for most of the game holding out for the victory. There were good performances with Jenkins comfortable at fly half, and the front row dominant, but it all changed with the unfortunate front row injury, and rather than returning with a bonus point victory it was make do with a hard earned win.

The Youth team's ambitions of further progress in the Welsh cup were extinguished by a well drilled Treorchy side at Parc Drefach. Despite a brave performance and only being one score down at half time, the more experienced visitors took advantage of the elements in the second period and ran out winner by 41 points.
